The city’s website is full of helpful links, phone numbers and “How to” information. If you need to contact the police department for the City of Londonderry you can find contact information on their section of the city website. You may also find the “Senior Affairs” department helpful along with the “For Residents” section which is check full of helpful information.

Hospitals and Clinics

Proper medical care is important at any age; however, the reality is that the older we get, the more important it becomes to make frequent doctor visits for preventative care and check-ups. If you are a resident of Londonderry, New Hampshire, there are several medical centers/hospitals to choose from for routine and/or emergency medical care. Derry Medical Services provides primary care and imaging services. Parkland Medical Center offers similar medical care and services. For emergency care, Elliot Hospital is not far away, offering a 32 bed, full service, Level II Trauma Center.  At some point in time, you may also need to qualify for Medicaid to help the high cost of long-term care. If you are looking for nursing home care in the Londonderry area, you might try All American Assisted Living or Aurora Senior Living of Derry.  The Tlc Medical Daycare, located close by in Concord, also offers adult daycare services for seniors who need assistance but who do not require full nursing home care.

Leisure Time

The Londonderry area offers several clubs and activities geared toward seniors that may be of interest. The Senior Affairs office is a good place to start if you are looking for general information for older residents of the city. The Londonderry Senior Center is an option for seniors who want to socialize and share information. In addition, the center offers support and promotes financial and social independence for the city’s older population. For veterans living in Londonderry, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1617 is a popular place to gather and socialize.

State and Federal Assistance Programs

An excellent all around elder law resource to have handy is the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NHDHHS), Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services. The BEAS provides a variety of social and long-term supports to adults age 60 and older. If you are concerned that an elderly loved one is the victim of abuse or neglect, or you are a victim yourself, contact the NHDHHS Adult Protection. The State of New Hampshire also has an excellent Family Caregiver Support Services program for caregivers who need assistance.

Many seniors also qualify for assistance from the Social Security disability or retirement program. For information on Social Security disability benefits, visit the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) website. Information about your Social Security retirement benefits can also be found on the website. If you are a veteran, or the surviving spouse or dependent of a veteran, you may also be entitled to a number of benefits through the Veteran’s Administration. Once you reach retirement age, you will likely be automatically enrolled in the Medicare program. Although basic Medicare is free to all seniors, Medicare actually has four parts and the other three parts may come with a premium. Additional resources aimed specifically at helping the elderly on the federal government’s Eldercare Directory.
