Communities We Serve — Lexington, Massachusetts

A considerable amount of thought and planning will undoubtedly go into the creation of your comprehensive estate plan. Consequently, you should put the same amount of thought into choosing an estate planning attorney to help you create your plan. The estate planning attorneys and staff at DeBruyckere Law Offices understand how important your estate plan is to you and to those you love. We have dedicated our practice to helping our friends and neighbors in the Lexington, Massachusetts community create a plan that reflects their estate planning needs and wishes, both now and in the years to come. We look forward to the opportunity to do the same for you.

Lexington, Massachusetts

Located in Middlesex County and covering approximately 17 square miles, the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts was home to 31,394 residents at the time of the 2010 Census. Lexington, however, is also considered part of the Greater Boston Area which has a population of almost five million people was Lexington frequently ranks among the top ten wealthiest small cities in the United States.

The area where you will find the modern day town of Lexington was settled around 1642 as part of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The town itself was first incorporated as a parish known as Cambridge Farms in 1691 and then as a separate town in 1713, at which time it was given the name of Lexington. The origin of the town’s name remains somewhat of a mystery. Many people believe that the town was named in honor of Lord Lexington, an English peer while others believe it was named after the town of Lexington (today spelled “Laxton”) in Nottinghamshire, England.

The Town of Lexington is best known as the site of what many believe to be the first battle of the American Revolution, which took place on April 19, 1775.  For almost another century, Lexington remained a relatively small farming community that provided Boston with much of its produce, though its bustling downtown area can still be enjoyed today. The town’s proximity to Boston, coupled with the emergence of the rail line spurred the town’s growth though in the middle of the 19th century. A century later, the boom in the high tech industry caused another jump in the town’s population as well as a marked increase in property values and improvement in the area’s school system.

Today, visitors and residents alike enjoy a wealth of shopping, dining, and entertainment options as well as numerous parks and a multitude of historic sites worth visiting.

DeBruyckere Law Offices in the Lexington, Massachusetts Community

At DeBruyckere Law Offices we focus on the issues we feel matter most to our friends and neighbors – protecting yourself, your assets, and your loved ones, both now and in the years to come. Working with the right estate planning attorney is crucial to creating a plan that reflects your estate planning needs and objectives. We are cognizant, however, of how difficult it can be to discuss highly personal financial and family matters with a virtual stranger. This is one of the many reasons we strive to create lasting relationships with our Lexington, Massachusetts clients.

In order to rely on your estate plan in the future, you will need to establish a solid foundation now and then revise that plan in the years to come. The need to review and revise your estate plan is one reason that we urge you to develop an ongoing relationship with your estate planning attorney. When you are young, single, and just embarking on your career path you do not need much more than a simple Last Will and Testament to prevent leaving behind an intestate estate.  As both your family and your estate grow, however, your estate plan will need to be updated to take those changes into account. A spouse and/or children will prompt you to consider adding incapacity planning to your estate plan as well as to make beneficiary and fiduciary changes to your plan. You may also decide to create a trust to protect the inheritance you plan to leave your minor children.  With the growth, both in size and value, of your estate you may need to consider the addition of asset protection tools and strategies to your overall plan. As retirement looms on the horizon, long-term care and Medicaid planning should be incorporated into your estate plan unless you can afford the high cost of long-term care out of pocket. You will also wish to consider a funeral and burial planning component if you have strong feelings about how your remains should be handled and what type of service should be had. Likewise, you may want to execute an advanced directive if you have strong opinions about end of life medical treatment.

At DeBruyckere Law Offices our goal is to be with you every step of the way along your life’s journey. By developing a life-long relationship with you we believe we are able to do much more to protect you, your assets, and your loved ones.

Testimonials

I felt complete trust and confidence in Dan DeBruyckere and his staff. They have a caring, low-key approach and there is no pressure to add products to the estate plan; rather he makes me aware of changes in the law, etc. I always learn something new to assist me in our planning!
